“If you’re at risk, you should just stay home. No reason for everyone else to have to wear a mask.”

“If you don’t like what Trump is doing, then get the hell out of the country.”

Finally, after weeks of thinking through this, I’ve called my final lifelines and friends and I’ve come up with my final answer.

Fuck you.

I’m part of the generation that build the country you’re enjoying. I stood the midwatches in the Navy, spent holidays overseas or on duty. Later, as an attorney, I defended the poor, did pro bono, made sure that you could walk down the street and enjoy those Constitutional rights you seem to conflate with avoiding any inconvenience.

This isn’t just your world. It’s mine, too. I paid my dues. Now you pay yours by doing something a damned sight easier — wear your mask.

The concept of a social compact has completely disappeared, replaced by some odd conviction that the DJIA level equates to a quality of life.

That’s not the way it works.

For better or worse, we built on what was left to us. That led to computers, Tik-Tok, and blogging.

We made mistakes. Climate, racism, and more. Every generation does.

You will, too, with what’s left to you.

But right now, at this moment, it’s not just your world. It’s for all of us.

Put your damn mask on and quit being such a wimp.
